The
Star-Ledger & FLM Graphics Take A Bite Out
of Garden State
Fairfield,
New Jersey, June 6, 2001 -Thoughts of the upcoming
summer season often prompt fond memories of
a multitude of favorite activities and pastimes
baseball and the shore, just to name
two. For many Jersians, summer is also synonymous
with the finer things life has to offer: ballpark
grub, boardwalk food, Italian ice, Philly cheesesteaks,
and a lengthy list of other Jersey Shore food
favorites.
To
honor the arrival of the summer solstice, with
all its seasonal amenities, New Jerseys
Star-Ledger newspaper unveiled its Munchmobile
(a.k.a. the Big Dog), their roadside
mobile food patrol, which is now in its fourth
year and promises to be bigger, better, and
brighter than ever. The Munchmobile, an eight-seat
van, boasts a colorful new look food-themed
vehicle graphics (hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza,
French fries, lobsters, ketchup, mustard, and
other items). Attention-grabbing vehicle graphics
for the Munchmobile were imaged and installed
by FLM Graphics Trucolor Division, Fairfield,
New Jersey, based on an original concept and
design by Star-Ledger artist Pablo Colon.

The Star-Ledger Munchmobile |
The Munchmobile, according to Jim Willse, editor
of The Star-Ledger, is as much about peoples
memories as it is about food. In unsettled times,
its reassuring to know that the Big Dog
will celebrate that place where you had a great
burger on the night of your prom, or where your
spouse proposed over a plate of linguine with
clam sauce.
Twelve
Guest Munchers were selected, from among scores
of Star-Ledger readers who submitted Munchmobile
résumés, to travel the Garden
States highways and byways in the now
famous Munchmobile with the objective of visiting
even more restaurants and stands than the 111
that were visited last summer.
Each
Friday, from Memorial Day through Labor Day
weekends, the Munchmobiles field reports
appear in the Today section of The Star-Ledger.
